Elizabeth Esty: "I Will Not Be Running for Governor"

Rep. Elizabeth Esty is ruling out a 2018 run for governor.

"At this critical juncture in our nation's history, I believe I can best serve our state by continuing to give my all as the representative for central and northwest Connecticut in Congress,'' the 5th District Democrat said Tuesday. "I love my job and there is nothing I'm more passionate about than working hard with my neighbors to solve the problems we face. I will not be running for governor."

Esty, a three-term congresswoman from Cheshire, had been rumored to be mulling a gubernatorial run. But like her colleague in Congress, Democrat Joe Courtney of the 2nd District, she plans to run for reelection instead.

While Elizabeth Esty has taken her name off of the list of potential candidates for governor, there's no word on whether her husband, for Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Dan Esty, is planning his own bid.
