Small Child Burned In Camping Accident At Rocky Neck

A 17-month-old boy was burned and taken to the hospital on Saturday morning after he fell against a hot Dutch oven at Rocky Neck State Park, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

DEEP spokesman Dennis Schain said the child was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London with moderate but not life-threatening burns. Schain said the boy's family was using the Dutch oven to cook breakfast at a camp site in the park, which is the Niantic section of East Lyme.

Schain said the accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The child's family was not identified but Schain said they are from Middlebury.
