May 2, 2002: Leslie Buck, 57, is kidnapped and beaten, but escapes. Russell Kirby, a handyman who worked for the Bucks, is charged with kidnapping and other counts.

May 4, 2002: Charlie Buck tells police he found his wife's body at the bottom of the stairs when he came home from work. At the time, Kirby is in police custody.

July 8, 2004: Kirby's trial in the kidnapping and beating of Leslie Buck begins. Charlie Buck refuses to testify.

July 27, 2004: A Superior Court jury convicts Kirby of assault and kidnapping.

Sept. 9, 2004: Kirby is sentenced to 21 years.

May 19, 2005: A lawyer for Leslie Buck's estate files a wrongful death lawsuit against Charlie Buck, accusing him of having an affair and soliciting Kirby to kill his wife.

Oct. 10, 2006: The state Supreme Court orders a new trial for Kirby.

June 6, 2008: Judge dismisses the wrongful death suit on procedural grounds but allows the estate to refile the complaint. That case is now pending.

Jan. 22, 2009: Charlie Buck is arrested and charged with Leslie Buck's murder.

Feb. 2, 2010: Kirby convicted at second trial.
