A police pursuit that began in West Haven Tuesday afternoon ended in New Haven, after the vehicle police were pursuing crashed and left an uninvolved motorist with serious injuries, police said.
State police said the crash occurred about 12:19 p.m., when a Honda Civic being pursued by police and driven by 21-year-old Christopher Villot, collided into a Volvo S40 at the intersection of Route 10, also known as Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, and Route 34, also known as Derby Avenue.
The driver of the Volvo, and its sole occupant, Barbara Rosner, 71, of Derby, suffered serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, state police said.
Two other passengers in the Civic, Justin Marrero, 21, and Kenneth Villot, 18, suffered from suspected minor injuries, police said.
West Haven police said officers were conducting motor vehicle enforcement in the area of Boston Post Road and Marginal Drive when they attempted to stop the Civic driven by Villot. Instead, Villot fled and collided with the Volvo. After the crash, Villot fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his two passengers and Rosner, police said.
Police did not say what prompted them to stop or pursue the Civic.
“At the request of the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, the Connecticut State Police was called upon to assume the investigation,” state police said.
