A teenager remained in the hospital Wednesday after he and a car collided while he was riding a bicycle.
Darren Chen, a 15-year-old student at Conard High School, continues to be treated for serious injuries, including head trauma, police said Wednesday.
The collision happened at the intersection of Hall and Federal streets about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. There was no school that day because it was Election Day.
According to police, the teen was headed north on Federal Street when he pedaled through a stop sign and collided with a 2004 Nissan Altima traveling east on Hall Street. There is a stop sign for Federal Street traffic, but none for Hall Street traffic, police said.
The driver, Kendall Fulton, 32, of West Hartford stopped and cooperated with police, Capt. Jeff Rose said. The boy was taken to Hartford Hospital and transferred to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Fulton wasn’t injured. The Nissan he was driving was inspected and found to be “mechanically sound,” police said.
Officers closed the intersection and spent hours at the scene Tuesday morning.
No citations have been given out, Rose said Wednesday. The investigation continues.
