A suspected thief with a nose for fine fragrances was arrested Tuesday after police say he stole more than $3,000 worth of high-end perfumes and colognes from Macy’s.
Adolph Forsythe, 48, of Holcomb Street in Hartford was charged with third-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in Superior Court in Manchester March 22, they said.
According to police, security workers for Macy’s Logistics Center, a warehouse at 301 Governors Highway, discovered in January that a worker, identified as Forsythe, had been stealing fragrances and hiding them in his car. Police recovered 31 bottles, valued at $3,433.
The stolen scents included pricey fragrances from Christian Dior, Givenchy and Bugatti, with prices as high as $200 a bottle, Deputy Chief Scott Custer said.
Forsythe told officers he took the bottles for decorative purposes, but police suspect he planned to sell them.
Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest and served it Tuesday morning, police said.
Forsythe’s employment status wasn’t clear Tuesday.
