An investigation into a smash-and-grab burglary in South Windsor led local officers and Hartford police to a getaway car — and 700 packs of cigarettes stolen in similar Hartford-area break-ins, police said.
South Windsor police arrested Javier Delgado, 42, of Jefferson Street in Hartford on Monday and charged him with involvement in a May break-in at the Valero gas station convenience store, 180 Sullivan Ave.
According to police, Delgado played a role in the theft, during which suspects smashed through the front door and removed cartons of cigarettes.
South Windsor detectives worked with Hartford police on the investigation and found the getaway car. They also recovered more than 700 packs of cigarettes and other items stolen in break-ins across Hartford County, police said.
South Windsor police arrested Delgado on a warrant Monday in Superior Court in Manchester charging him with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and third-degree larceny, police said.
He was in custody Tuesday on more than $290,000 bail stemming from previous charges, which include similar charges out of Glastonbury.
