South Windsor PD: Manchester Man Arrested In Camper Arson

Police said they arrested a Manchester man on an arson charge after he set a camper on fire in South Windsor over the summer.

Pierce Holcomb, 53, of Adams Street was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with third-degree arson, first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree burglary, police said. He posted $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Manchester Oct. 12.

According to police, the Aug. 1 fire on Foster Road destroyed the camper-van. No one was inside at the time and no one was injured.

Neighbors had seen a Volvo wagon leave the scene around the time the fire started, Deputy Chief Scott Custer said. While the van’s owner — who had recently had ended a relationship with Holcomb — was not home, his relatives were and they suspected Holcomb. They had earlier kicked him off the property.

Police called Holcomb and when he drove to meet investigators to be interviewed about the fire, he was drunk, Custer said.

They charged him with driving while under the influence, he said.
