Portland Police Have Car From Deadly Collision, Still Looking For Driver

Police said they have the car they believe struck a 22-year-old riding a scooter on the Arrigoni Bridge last weekend, but they don’t know who was behind the wheel at the time of the deadly collision.

The white, 2001 Audi A4 has been turned over to the Portland Police Department, Officer Paul Liseo said Friday. Police have identified the owner, who has retained a lawyer.

Police don’t believe the owner was driving the car on the night of the collision that killed Daquan Moore. They say the Audi had a male driver and a female passenger, as did a second car that was driving on the bridge at the same time. Liseo said earlier this week that police believe the two cars had been racing.

The collision happened about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, when Moore was riding the scooter east, from Middletown to Portland. Police believe that the Audi and other car were traveling in the same direction, and that the Audi struck Moore from behind, they said.

Both cars continued into Portland, where they turned around and went back over the bridge into Middletown, police said Friday.

The collision is being investigated by the Portland Police Department and the Middletown Police Traffic Division / Accident Reconstruction Team. Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police at 860-342-6780 or Middletown Central Dispatch at 860-347-2541.
