Police are investigating after a 21-year-old man was shot in the thigh during an apparent robbery Sunday evening.
At about 7:45 p.m., New Haven Police were notified through ShotSpotter of gunfire in the area of Bassett Street between Dixwell Avenue and Watson Street, according to New Haven police spokesman David Hartman.
Responding officers found 21-year-old Willie Wiggins, of Donna Drive, with a gunshot wound to his thigh. Police said he was shot when someone tried to steal Wiggins’ cell phone. Wiggins was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition with a non-life threatening wound.
Police ask that anyone with information call detectives at 203-946-6304 and that phone calls can be made anonymously.
