A Hartford man was arrested Wednesday after officers watched him selling steroids from the parking lot of a local fitness club, police say.
Shirwan Latif, 41, was arrested outside Edge Fitness on Pavilions Drive. Latif was charged on two warrants with sale and possession of a controlled substance, Sgt. Matthew Pace said. He also faces charges in connection with three vials of steroids he had in his possession when he was arrested, Pace said.
Officers from the East Central Narcotics Task Force officers started watching Latif in October and saw him selling steroids outside the Pavilions Drive gym, according to Pace, who heads the drug squad. Latif’s main products were testosterone enanthate and Equipoise, both injectable steroids that are popular with some body builders, Pace said. One vial sells for $70 to $90, he said.
Latif also was on probation for a sexual assault conviction at the time he was arrested, Pace said. Records show he was sentenced to three years in prison in 2013 for second-degree sexual assault of a victim over age 13, but under 16. Latif was being held on bail totaling $225,000.
