Two men were seriously injured in a three-car chain-reaction crash on Route 8 Monday night in Harwinton, state police said.
Troopers were called to the crash near Exit 42 on the northbound lanes of Route 8 about 6:15 p.m.
State police said a Mitsubishi Endeavor lost control and crossed the left shoulder, hitting a guard rail before stopping again on the highway, facing south.
The vehicle was then hit head-on by a Subaru Legacy driving north; when the Subaru came to a stop, it was hit by a Pontiac G8.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a Bridgeport man, was found lying in the road and unresponsive when troopers arrived. He was taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital and later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The driver of the Subaru was flown to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar. The third driver was treated by first responders for minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
