An impaired driver caused a crash that critically injured a 3-year-old Thursday night, state police said.
Frank Rose, 23, of Route 32 in Catskill, N.Y. was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after failing a field sobriety test, they said. More charges are expected.
According to the state police, Rose was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram west on Route 44 near Rock Hail Road shortly after 10 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck and it crossed into the lane for oncoming traffic. He collided with a 2012 Honda Accord driven by Jennifer Martinez, 25, of Bristol.
A 3-year-old girl in the back seat was flown to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center with serious injuries. She was in critical condition, state police said.
A second girl, a 5-year-old, sustained injuries that appear minor and was taken to Waterbury Hospital. Martinez also suffered injuries that police said appeared minor.
Both children had been strapped into car seats, police said. Rose was not injured.
Troopers continue to investigate, state police said. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Trooper Rafael Figueiral at the Troop B barracks, 860-626-1820.
