Possible Break In Unsolved Jenner Beach Murders
A man who died last week in a shootout with a sheriff's deputy in New Mexico was being investigated in the 2004 killings of a couple on a Northern California beach.

Sonoma County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Duke says 62-year-old Joseph Henry Burgess was at the top of a list of people authorities were looking at in the shooting deaths of Jason Allen, 26, of Zeeland and Lindsay Cutshall, 22.

Allen and Custshall were found shot to death on a beach in Jenner, Calif., in August of 2004..

Duke says Burgess had connections to Northern California and also was wanted in Canada for the killings of two Vancouver campers in 1972.

Burgess was killed Thursday during a gunfight with Sandoval County sheriff's Sgt. Joe Harris during a stakeout in the Jemez Mountains. Harris also was fatally shot.
