Kent County Driver Hurt When Car Rolls Over Avoiding Bus Full Of Children
A driver was injured when his car rolled over while avoiding a bus full of children shortly after noon Friday.

At 12;20 p.m. Friday, the Kent County Sheriff's Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a rollover personal injury accident at the intersection of Alden Nash Avenue SE and 84th Street SE in Bowne Township near Alto. Upon arriving deputies found a two-vehicle accident with a Saturn SC2 driven by a 38-year-old Caledonia man rolled over in a ditch. The second vehicle was a 2006 Chevrolet day care bus driven by a 23-year-old Cutlerville woman who was transporting 10 children back to a day care center after a field trip.

The investigation showed that the bus driver was westbound on 84th Street SE, stopped at the intersection of Alden Nash Avenue SE, looked both directions and pulled out in front of the Saturn, which was southbound on Alden Nash. To prevent a crash and cause injury to the children on the bus, the Saturn's driver veered to the right and entered a ditch, where the vehicle rolled over.

The Saturn's driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries while the bus' driver and 10 children all were uninjured.

Deputies said both drivers were wearing seat belts and that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
