Q: Have they stopped working on the road leading to the Golden Glades interchange as you come off Florida's Turnpike? They removed toll booths, but the road now has curved lanes so everyone puts on their brakes. What's up?

A: The turnpike's project included some minor improvements to the ramps south of the old Golden Glades toll plaza. But more relief won't occur until construction is finished on another major fix planned in 2017.
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to widen the turnpike connector to I-95 to five lanes, including two lanes from the turnpike and three lanes from the eastbound Palmetto Expressway. Three lanes will exit to a relocated off-ramp to State Road 7 while the other three lanes will continue to I-95, which will get another lane between the Golden Glades and Northwest 151st Street. The entrance to the southbound express lanes south of the Golden Glades also will be moved 300 feet further south.
The improvements on the turnpike connector will create space for a future direct ramp from the turnpike to the I-95 southbound express lanes. But that isn't planned as part of the upcoming project in 2017.
Q: A dangerous turn exists at the southwest corner of Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road. It is a weird turn into pitch blackness at night. Hopefully it will be corrected before a serious accident occurs.

A: Palm Beach County's minimum requirements for installing streets lights are that the road must be a thoroughfare and it must have a minimum of four lanes.
The section of Lyons south of Atlantic is only two lanes.
However, Florida Power & Light Co. will be installing street lights on West Atlantic Avenue from Starkey Avenue to west of Lyons Road as soon as the Florida Department of Transportation issues a permit.
Q: A sign on northbound State Road 7 at Wiles Road says drivers making U-turns must yield. That seems backward. If I have a green left turn arrow, shouldn't I have the right of way to make a U-turn?

A: Eastbound Wiles has a dedicated right turn lane and signal so when those drivers have a green arrow, drivers making U-turns must yield to them.
The intersection also has what's called a "right turn overlap" that runs in conjunction with the northbound left turn on S.R. 7.
"When the state employs right-turn overlap phasing, they will typically sign the corresponding left turn movement for either "no U-turn" or as they have at this location "U-turn yield", said Andrew Sebo, a Broward County traffic engineer.
