Fire officials are trying to determine the cause of a major fire at an unsold home in Southbury overnight.

Firefighters responded to a house fire at 75 Vista View Drive at 12:30 a.m., Chief Rick Lyle said. The fire was intense and shooting through the roof when they arrived, Lyle said.

Because of the intensity of the flames, firefighters needed to battle it from the outside, Lyle said. It took about three hours to contain the fire, Lyle said.

The sizeable home was built about five years ago, but was never sold, Lyle said.

Firefighters said it is believed to have started in the front of the home, however Southbury and State Fire Marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire.
