Denmark's Joe & The Juice to enter Chicago market with three locations

Upscale Danish coffee and juice chain Joe & The Juice is coming to Chicago, with plans for three stores by early 2018.

Joe & The Juice has leased three spaces north of the Loop, with plans to likely add more stores in the future, according to brokerage CBRE, which represented the retailer.

The first shop is expected to open by late this year in a residential tower at Delaware Place and State Street in the Gold Coast, next to the Talbott Hotel, according to CBRE Vice President Phil Golding. He represented Joe & The Juice, along with CBRE's Todd Siegel and Amira Yunis.

By early 2018, Joe & The Juice plans to open in an office building now under construction at Wells and Hubbard streets in River North, and in a new Near North apartment tower at Huron and State streets.

"We didn't start in the Loop, which is unique," Golding said. "They wanted to be closer to the residential base, which is their core customer, and it's in close proximity to office density as well."

The Chicago deals are the company's first in the Midwest. Joe & The Juice has about 200 locations worldwide, including in the New York, San Francisco and Miami areas. The company is also set to open its first shops in the Los Angeles area.

Golding said Joe & The Juice continues to look at more potential sites in the city, including in the Loop, but he declined to estimate how many Chicago shops the company is likely to add.

The retailer, which sells prepared juices, coffee, shakes and sandwiches, was founded in Copenhagan in 2002. Joe & The Juice shops, typically found in wealthier areas, feature comfortable seating and luxurious finishes.

"These will be beautiful stores that will make you want to come inside," Golding said of the Chicago shops.
