VERNON — Police have released the name of the woman who died after she was struck by a car on Route 30 Wednesday.

Kathleen Jasak, 58, who lived nearby on Fern Street, had been walking on the busy road near the intersection with East Street about 7:20 a.m. when the accident happened. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was struck by a 2000 Ford Focus being driven by Robert Maly, 66, of Wallingford, police said. Maly stayed at the scene after the accident happened and cooperated with investigators, they said.

Police have not made any arrests, although the investigation continues, they said.

That part of Route 30, or Hyde Avenue, is in a high-traffic, commercial area with shopping plazas on both sides. It is next to a major intersection, which is down the street from exit 67 of I-84. The stretch of road was closed for nearly four hours; it was reopened by 11:15 a.m.

Members of a regional traffic team, Metro Traffic Services, are investigating. Any witnesses are asked to call police at 860-872-9126.
