Harry Connick Jr. is releasing a song dedicated to Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, one of the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown and the daughter of musician Jimmy Greene.
Jimmy Greene played tenor saxophone in Connick's big band for years. Connick sang at Ana Grace's funeral and says he was inspired by a speaker at the service who said love trumps the greatest tragedies.
On his facebook page, Connick writes: "I've written a song for Ana Grace called 'Love Wins.' It's an all-star cast, featuring Kim Burrell, Doobie Powell, Nikki Ross, Jonathan Dubose Jr., and, of course, Jimmy Greene on tenor saxophone. The song will be available for download on iTunes on June 11. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Ana Grace fund to help Jimmy and his family get through this difficult time."
The Ana Grace Fund is at http://www.anagracefund.com.
Connick's new album, "Every Man Should Know" (Columbia) is being released June 11. ("Love Wins" is not on the new CD.) Connick is appearing in concert at Simsbury Meadows, 22 Iron Horse Boulevard, Simsbury on June 22.
