"Burying The Child"

This heart-rending scene, an oil painting by famed Irish portrait and landscape artist Lilian Lucy Davidson (1893-1954), was unusual for Irish painting of the period. It echoes the European tradition -- particularly Picasso in his Blue Period -- of artists engaged with the darkness of the apocalyptic years just before and after World War I.
