Offers of financial assistance to the families affected by the tragedy in Newtown has spurred the creation of several charity funds. Discount Power, Inc. is proud to partner with The United Way of Western Connecticut, administrators of the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, as part of the company's profit sharing program. Discount Power donated $1,000 to the fund in December.
To date, other Connecticut non-profits have received approximately $47,000 with the help of Discount Power. Among the charities who have participated are Ridgefield Playhouse, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Connecticut Special Olympics, Coastal United Way, Valley United Way, Arthritis Foundation, and several school PTA's.
Any non-profit with an already established constituency can take advantage of the program. There must be a willingness on part of the non-profit to help spread to its followers Discount Power's message of savings. By simply getting supporters to enroll with Discount Power, Discount Power will make a donation based upon the amount of kWh used for each customer enrolled through the non-profit. This translates to approximately $3 a month per residential account. Contributions will be shared with non-profit on a monthly basis.
For the supporter, this is a way to contribute to a non-profit without having to actually dip into his or her own pocket. The cost of electricity is the same regardless of whether the customer enrolls through a non-profit or any other means that DPI enrolls customers.
"It is an easy way for a non-profit to encourage supporters to donate while they are saving money," said Ferreri. "In these continued tough economic times, getting someone to put out cash to support a non-profit is very difficult. With this program, not only are you not asking them for money out of their pocket, you are also assisting them in putting money back into theirs."
There's no better time to make the switch to Discount Power. There are several options available for Connecticut consumers based upon their individual needs. The conversion process takes a matter of minutes. Conveniently, you still pay your existing provider, be it CL&P or UI, and the utility in turn pays Discount Power.
