NEW BRITAIN - The state plans to begin milling and resurfacing 2.45 miles of Route 71 in the city beginning Aug. 18.

Department of transportation crews are scheduled to cut away the top layer of pavement from Aug. 18 to 27, then repave from Sept. 8 to 19.

"Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 71 from South Street to Route 175 (Allen Street)," the DOT said in a statement. "Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone."

The DOT advises drivers to maintain a safe speed in the work zone.

Work will be done Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the DOT said. Bad weather or other unexpected circumstances could change the schedule.
