As a first-generation college student, Alexis Rodriguez said his parents are very proud of his accomplishments.
"They never thought I would get this far," he said. "I'm the first in my family to go to college and they are happy for me."
With a 4.9 out of 5.0 grade point average, Rodriguez participated in multiple extracurricular activities in high school, including cross country, track, band and interact club. He was also a member of the National Honors Society, the president of the Science National Honors Society and the vice president of the French National Honors Society.
He also said he won the Superintendents award and the Male Athlete of the Year award, sponsored by McDonald's.
Rodriguez will attend Yale University in the fall and plans to be a pre-medical major. He said he is considering a career in the medical field, but is also interested in foreign languages. Rodriguez said he speaks fluent Spanish and a little French.
In high school, Rodriguez said his best moment was running cross country, because it challenged and inspired him.
"I've been able to run with the team and my team has inspired me to always push further," he said. "We are very close as a team and everything I've worked for has been a team effort."
