AVON — An interim principal has been appointed for Roaring Brook School after the finalist to take the position decided not to take the job.
Superintendent of Schools Gary Mala has announced that Thomas F. Russo, a former teacher and school administrator in the Hartford area, will be the interim principal at Roaring Brook this year. Russo starts at the school on Aug. 18, Mala said.
"We are very pleased to secure the services of Dr. Russo for the coming school year particularly during the leadership team transition period at Roaring Brook School," Mala said in a statement. "Tom brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role specifically in the areas of planning and providing focused, meaningful professional development, integrating technology to support high quality instruction and team building."
An interim appointment had to be made because a finalist for the job who was interviewed by the board of education on July 10 withdrew their candidacy afterward.
Mala said that Russo's career includes teaching English at the middle school level in Manchester along with working as a school administrator in Wethersfield and in Glastonbury, where he was principal of Smith Middle School. Russo has a bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State College along with a master's in education and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut.
