Biography

Jon Lender is a reporter on the politics and government beat. He writes The Courant’s Sunday investigative column, Government Watch. A reporter and editor for 40 years, he has received numerous regional and national journalism awards, including the 2004 George Polk Award for investigative stories by him and two other reporters about corruption involving Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland, who later served 10 months in federal prison. He began as a town reporter in Willimantic, Bristol, Southington and Middletown before switching to investigative reporting and government/politics coverage.

Two top aides to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy — budget director Ben Barnes and chief of staff Mark Ojakian — exchanged anxious texts last Nov. 20 about how it went when Barnes informed Linda Yelmini, the state's longtime labor-relations chief, that she'd be fired within weeks.
