Kitty O'Shea's wins Golden Noodle

Special to the Tribune
The Golden Noodle goes to ... Kitty O'Shea's

Kitty O’Shea's (720 S. Michigan in the Hilton Chicago) took first place in a competition with 50-area restaurants to win the Golden Noodle Award during the inaugural Mac and Cheese Fest held at the Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago Forum on Saturday.

The winning dish, Chicago Mix Mac & Cheese, is made of cheddar mac, short rib, corn bread and Tabasco onions with a salted caramel drizzle.

Judges Evan Topel (corporate executive chef at Emmi Roth), John Abels (lead instructor at Le Cordon Bleu), Rochelle Trotter (entrepreneur, TV personality), Sarah Grueneberg (owner/chef and "Top Chef" finalist) and Wilbert Jones (president of the Wilbert Jones Co.) based their votes on taste, texture and creativity, along with votes from attendees of the fest.

Mac and Cheese Fest event producers and owners Cece Gonzales, Melinda Joseph and Ozzie Meza will donate $10,000 from proceeds raised at the event to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.
