On Sunday, I read three stories and editorials on domestic violence and the need for greater protections for victims [Page 1, Aug. 16, "When A Home Is No Shelter"; CTOpinion, "Abusers Must Be Put On Notice"; editorial, "Brutality At Home"]. Monday, I read about the arrest of an alleged abuser for violation of a protective order [Page 1, Aug. 17, "Suspect Has History Of Abuse Arrests"].

In Connecticut, we could fill entire newspapers, television and radio news reports with stories about domestic violence and still have more stories to report. The enormity of domestic violence that occurs in this state is and should be declared unacceptable by all who live here. We should be outraged by what we read day in and day out about domestic violence.

Please make it your business to offer assistance to friends and family who are affected by domestic violence. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by domestic violence. And there is help by simply calling 888-774-2900.

I applaud The Courant for its efforts to educate the public about domestic violence. Together we can all make a difference in eliminating domestic violence.
