Shellfishing In Connecticut

Shellfishing in January? Crazy -- you might think! But, not so! Thanks to the cool waters, the winter is the BEST time to go clamming along the Connecticut shoreline. At Great Harbor in Guilford, the beds are rich with oysters and little necks -- and the scenery is gorgeous, too!
Just be sure to don insulated waders and pick up some necessary equipment at Captain Morgan's Bait & Tackle Shop on Boston Post Road in Madison.
Also: call 1-800-453-8088 to make sure the beds are open. A day permit costs $25.00....a year-long permit costs $75.00. Have fun and be warm!
