Rosholt: Betty Palmer, 76, of Rosholt and formerly of Mellette, died Jan. 11, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn.
Betty was cremated and her memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Northwestern United Methodist Church in Mellette. The Rev. Jon Damaska will officiate. Burial of Betty's ashes will be in the Mellette Cemetery. Memorials will be donated to the Mellette Cemetery.
Betty was born March 2, 1934, in Mellette, to Earl and Hazel (Haessig) Burt. She grew up in Mellette and graduated from Mellette High School in 1952. Betty married Dean Palmer in 1952 in Webster. They lived in California, North Dakota, Aberdeen, Wisconsin and Iowa, before returning to South Dakota. Betty owned and operated Palmer's Grocery Store in Mellette for many years. She worked at Gallagher and Battey Law Office for seventeen years and social services for five years before retiring.
She was a member of the Mellette American Legion Auxiliary and Northwestern United Methodist Church.
Betty enjoyed bowling and growing flowers.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Lonny) Brandell of Rosholt; Rick Palmer of Redfield; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Edwin Burt of Mario Valley, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Erna.
