The Dropkick Murphys started out as perhaps the most unlikely of eventual major-label success stories, a bunch of working-class friends developing a raucous fusion of Irish folk, punk and hardcore rock in a Boston-area barbershop basement in the mid ’90s.

Fifteen years, countless camaraderie-fueled live shows, one high-profile movie placement (2006’s “The Departed”) and a World Series victory celebration parade float performance later, the Murphys have emerged as both an international rock force and legit domestic chart-crasher. The group’s latest album, “Going Out in Style” — re-released next week in expanded form with bonus live tracks and video — featured a guest spot by Bruce Springsteen and debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 a year ago.

The Dropkick Murphys have also become the Northeast’s hottest St. Patrick’s Dayticket. The band brings its annual Irish holiday tour to the Mohegan Sun Arena (1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard in Uncasville) on Saturday, March 10. Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls open the 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $34.10, including fees. Information: 888-226-7711 or mohegansun.com.
