The Philly-by-way-of-Arizona metal band Vektor plays prog thrash, so its music is both super complicated and incredibly abrasive, and yet somehow laser-beam precise and clean as a butane flame.
Those might be qualities you seek out in your music, or not. The double-kick machine-gun effect of the drumming sends steady, forceful chest blows of 16th-note barrages through the listener. The vocals sound like a bestial growl while still chipping out sandblasted melodic lines, often in sync with the guitars.
The overall sonic effect is sort of the musical equivalent of being attacked by a sewing machine at light speed — it’s impressive and symbolically brutal.
Vektor plays The Ballroom at The Outer Space in Hamden, 295 Treadwell St., on Friday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. $12. 203-288-6400 and theouterspace.net
