Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club plays dance-y pop with a hint of ’80s nostalgia — old keyboard sounds, bright guitars — and even mildly post-punk edges. Underneath it all, one senses a fondness for electronic textures. Two Door Cinema Club seems to prefer dreamy and fun to angular and knotty. The band took a long break before writing and recording their last record, 2016’s “Gameshow,” their third, and there’s the suggestion of technological fatigue in the band’s latest, despite what is essentially a sunny-sounding album. Glimpses of suspicion about consumer culture and tech-obsessed modernity poke through the pep, as on songs like the perky “Bad Decisions,” which champions the drive to step away from social media.

They’re a bunch of fairly reserved guys from Northern Ireland, but they play music that’s bubbly, energetic and generally optimistic. The band has been around for 10 years, slowly growing in popularity, touring a ton and winning new converts at the big international festivals. Fans of bands like Yeasayer will hear a connection to Two Door Cinema Club.

Two Door Cinema Club will play College Street Music Hall, 238 College St., New Haven, Sunday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. $32.50 to $40. collegestreetmusichall.com.
