California jam band Tea Leaf Green is about 20 years old. (It was formed and took shape while some of the core members were in college in the Bay Area in the second half of the ’90s.)

There have been some recent personnel changes, with a new bass player joining the band this year, but Tea Leaf Green continues on its course. The band, like many in the jam scene, has shown an interest in mashing up styles and genres, with flashes of speedy metal-tinged boogie, funk, Americana, country, schizoid college rock and more. It’s been known to cover the Meat Puppets, the Velvet Underground and Kenny Rogers.

TLG — like most jam bands — puts on exuberant shows. This is a band possibly more at home on the stage than in the studio. Tea Leaf Green have a sometimes light and sometimes joyous sound, tending to veer less into giddy antics than some of bands on the jam scene. Vocals and songs seem as central to the band’s focus as stretching out and grooving.

Tea Leaf Green performs at Fairfield Theater Company’s Warehouse, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield, Thursday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $28. 203-25901036 or fairfieldtheatre.org.
