Sarah Borges’ 2016 EP “Good and Dirty” starts off with a pounding workmanlike beat and it kicks even more into rock mode when the guitars jump in. Borges sings with an appealing scratch and break to her voice.

She’s got a little Tom Petty, a little Tanya Tucker, and a little Foo Fighters in her sound. Borges and her crew understand the elemental charm of a rattling kick and snare synced up with a raspy guitar sound. Borges is from Massachusetts, but she’s as at home on the road, where she’s spent much of her adult life. Her music has that feeling of late nights, loud bars, the open road and car culture. She has a song called “Purple GTO,” which sums up the taste for classic muscle and bold color, which is true of her musical style as well.

Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles will be at Cafe Nine, 250 State St., New Haven, on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $13. 203-789-8281 or cafenine.com
