Roger Waters just turned 74 earlier this month. The rock life seems to have been physically kind to the Pink Floyd frontman; despite the darkness of his songs and his view, the guy is holding up nicely and has retained a sharp perspective on things.

Rogers just released a new record, “Is This The Life We Really Want?,” in June of this year. It’s his first studio album in 25 years, and there are definite whiffs of “Wish You Were Here,” “The Wall” and even “Meddle.” Waters has teamed with some notable players from the jam-band scene, including producer/guitarist Jonathan Wilson and My Morning Jacket keyboard player Bo Koster. Waters has also come out as a rabid opponent of Donald Trump, flashing politically charged texts and images at his shows.

Waters seems to be aiming to gather up a perspective on the whole post-9/11 world of current events, with angry songs about drones, refugees, bombs, banking crises, media hysteria, blowhard-psychopath politicians and more. He’s never been a ray of sunshine, but that’s why we love him. Fans of Pink Floyd will enjoy the new record as well, which includes tracks that bring to mind classic Floyd, complete with pangs of dystopian anxiety. His Us + Them Tour will feature Pink Floyd songs.

Roger Waters will be at the XL Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Hartford, on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. $31 to $195.50. xlcenter.com.
