He’s one of our greatest living jazz drummers, as well as an esteemed music teacher (at Berklee College of Music). Ralph Peterson Jr. has played with Art Blakey, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Dewey Redman, Terence Blanchard and Betty Carter, among many others.

Peterson recorded 15 songs as a bandleader. He’s at the impeccable jazz listening room Firehouse 12, 45 Crown St., New Haven, on Friday, Oct. 30. His current sidemen are the Hartford-born brothers Luque Curtis (on bass) and Zaccai Curtis (on piano).

Peterson has backed the Curtises on some of their own recordings, released through the influential Truth Revolution Records label the brothers co-founded. The Ralph Peterson trio plays two sets, at 8:30 p.m. (for $20) and 10 p.m. (for $15). Information: 203-785-0468 and firehouse12.com.
