Neil Diamond does Neil Diamond. It’s that simple.

Production duties for “Home Before Dark,” the singer-songwriter’s 2008 album, were handled by Rick Rubin, a producer known for getting artists to strip way back or explore new genres. For “Melody Road,” Diamond’s 2014 Capitol Records debut, he tapped Don Was; again, the album sounds like Neil. Both records cracked the Billboard top 10, with “Home Before Dark” reaching number one. You don’t mess with success.

Diamond, 74, returns to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville this Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m., just a couple of weeks after his last appearance, to sing you some classics (“Cherry Cherry,” “Holly Holy,” “Sweet Caroline,” and so on) and newer material. Tickets are $75 are $95. mohegansun.com
