The Litchfield Jazz Festival is the embodiment of jazz on a summer’s day. It’s a more humanely scaled festival, and it’s in your backyard.

Over the years the festival has hosted all kinds of legends as well as up-and-comers who went on to be become big names in the jazz world. This year, the festival’s 21st, features Hartford-raised siblings the Curtis Brothers — Luques on bass and Zaccai on piano. Other attractions include drummer Matt Wilson and bassist Avery Sharpe as part of a Big Bass Blowout. And 90-year-old saxophone legend Jimmy Heath (pictured) joins the trio of pianist Emmet Cohen. There will also be a tribute to the music of Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder by the Litchfield Jazz Orchestra, and a lot more.

In addition to the live jazz and the bucolic setting, there will be barbecue and other food, along with arts and crafts vendors.

The Litchfield Jazz Festival is held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7, at the Goshen Fairgrounds, Goshen. Tickets range from $25 to $500. litchfieldjazzfest.com.
