This August marks a grim milestone: 10 years since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, changing its vibrant cultural landscape for the next decade and beyond.

On Saturday, June 27, New Orleans saxophonist Donald Harrison leads a star-studded band — tenor sax/flute player Don Braden, alto saxophonist Albert Rivera, baritone sax player Gary Smulyan, drummer Winard Harper, vocalist Antoinette Montague, bassist Avery Sharpe, trombonist Peter McEachern, trumpeter Nick Roseboro and pianist Zaccai Curtis — in a tribute to the Crescent City, held in Veronica Hagman Concert Hall at Western Connecticut State University’s new Performing Arts Center in Danbury. The event is part of the Litchfield Jazz Festival’s 20th-season kickoff. Organizers will also hand out a few awards to students and educators who helped the people of New Orleans recover in the face of devastation.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets ($37) are available at litchfieldjazzfest.com or by calling 203-837-8499.
