In addition to all of the carnival food, demolition derbies and races at the Goshen Stampede, there will also be some serious boot-scootin’ tunes provided by headliner Josh Thompson.

He might be from Wisconsin, and he might be playing at a rodeo in New England, but Thompson is pretty adamant about his country bona fides, with songs about sin, forgiveness, beer (lots of songs about beer, actually), rural roads, the flag, guns, small towns, cutting loose on Friday nights, and revering Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.

He might insist on how country he is, but Thompson also has a rocking and honky-tonkin’ side. Thompson has a relatively new haircut (no more ponytail) and a new record deal, but listeners can expect him to keep singing songs about work, faith, partying, heartbreak and a life where livestock, truck pulls and all the other stuff happening at the Goshen Stampede is part of a routine good time.

Thompson plays the stampede Friday, June 18, at 8 p.m. Read more about the stampede here.

The Goshen Stampede runs Friday through Sunday, June 17 to 19 at the Goshen Fairgrounds, 116 Old Middle St. Tickets run from $6 to $32. Goshen. 860-485-8586 or goshenstampede.com.
