Guitarist and singer Joe Walsh always seemed to have a little more of a sense of humor than his fellow bandmates in the Eagles. Before he became an Eagle he was in the James Gang, whose “Funk #49” still sounds pretty gnarly after having been heard a million times.

He’s a much-admired guitar player, but he’ll probably end up remembered for some of his quirky solo hits, like “Life’s Been Good,” that rare song — about rock-and-roll excess and vanity — that’s both genuinely funny and forever catchy. “In The City,” a hit of Walsh’s with the Eagles, has that strange blend of a suggested disco beat, country harmonies, and Walsh’s unmistakably expressive slide guitar.

Joe Walsh plays the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theatre, 95 S. Turnpike Road, Wallingford, Saturday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $75. Information: 203-265-1501, livenation.com.
