Singer and songwriter Jason Isbell was a member of Drive-By Truckers, a venerable band of Southern-rock and Americana road warriors. Isbell went solo, got sober, got married and has a new baby. He’s set on growing up.

He’s maybe mellowed a bit. And his songwriting has matured as well. Isbell is from the northwestern part of Alabama, a region that has produced a freakishly high number of excellent musicians. Fans of Ryan Adams, Sturgill Simpson, Robbie Fulks and Lucinda Williams know that Isbell is doing something similar, something often sad and fairly serious, about weathering life’s blows, rivers of regret, growing old and staying in love, struggling to be a decent parent, not letting the road beat you.

Jason Isbell plays College Street Music Hall, 238 College St., New Haven, Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. $25 to $50. collegestreetmusichall.com.
