Jaimoe is known mainly for being a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and one of its two drummers. Since the Allmans went into retirement in 2014, Jaimoe, a resident of Bloomfield, has focused his talents on Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, which can sound a little like the Allmans, a little like Coltrane’s “Africa/Brass” and a little like a mellow, extended Blood, Sweat and Tears soul jam.

The jazzy improvisation sector of the jam-band scene is sometimes obscured by rock elements, but Jaimoe and his band showcase group-playing and horn arrangements. This is a chance for New England Peach Heads to see Jaimoe and his crew in an intimate setting. Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band plays Cafe Nine, 250 State St., New Haven, Thursday, April 21, at 8 p.m. $25. 203-789-8281 or cafenine.com.
