Graham Nash is the embodiment of the sensitive hippie singer. He’s sung songs about saving the whales, and he and his longtime collaborator David Crosby showed up at the Occupy Wall Street protests a few years back to serenade the demonstrators.

Nash, along with his CSNY colleagues, was the architect of a particular kind of soft and velvety vocal harmony. Some of his songs would sound at home in a cathedral or a be-in. But Nash, an Englishman, was making sweet music with the Hollies before he ever teamed up with his North American pals.

An avid photographer, fond of self portraits, throughout his days as a singer, Nash recently released a memoir that continued on the path of self-exploration. His candor in the book may have soured his long relationship with Crosby for the time being, but Nash seems at peace seeking his own happiness.

Nash, who turns 75 next year, recently announced his separation from his wife of 38 years at about the same time he was promoting his new solo record “This Path Tonight,” which is about searching for truth and beauty even if the terrain gets rough.

Graham Nash plays at Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 East Ridge, Ridgefield, Tuesday, July 19, at 8 p.m. $88. 203-438-5795, ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
