Funky Dawgz Brass Band blends vibrant college marching band music with the equally vibrant traditions of New Orleans brass bands. It’s part Mardi Gras and part halftime extravaganza.
Either way, it’s a parade. In addition to Crescent City standards, the Dawgz will take tunes by Beyonce and Pharrell and give them the full brass treatment. The sousaphone is the thing! The group has ties to the UConn marching band, and on its 2014 debut the band makes a link between the Connecticut River Valley and the mouth of the Mississippi River.
The Funky Dawgz play exuberant party music, and if carnival season is still a few months away, the short days of winter could also benefit from a little brightening from these happy jams.
