The Decemberists’ reputation as the most literate of indie rock acts was cemented when lead singer Colin Meloy put the band on hiatus so he could continue to work on his Wildwood series of fantasy novels.

Decemberists concerts have taken the form of musical theater events, a “lottery” where the songs in the set were chosen by chance, and an audience-participation stunt where, at the end of “The Mariner’s Revenge Song,” the audience screeched as if being consumed by a whale. The Decemberists returned to active touring in March of last year. A new album, “What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World,” arrived in January.

Among The Decemberists’ many Connecticut fans is Mark Nussbaum of Manic Productions, who helped secure a Decemberists gig for Monday, July 27, at the fancy new College Street Music Hall, 238 College St., New Haven. Another of Nussbaum’s faves, Lady Lamb, the young Maine-raised, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter formerly known as Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, opens the 7 p.m. show. Tickets are $46.
