For years, groups like the Portland Cello Project and Pink Martini have toyed with the boundaries between highbrow classical and campy pop. Gay string/vocal quartet Well-Strung (press materials refer to them as a boy-band), co-founded by violinist Christopher Marchant and producer Mark Cortale and featuring violinist Edmund Bagnell, violist Trevor Wadleigh and cellist Daniel Shevlin, crafts setlists full of Rihanna, Ke$ha and Kelly Clarkson numbers alongside Mozart and Vivaldi, weaving between genres with humor and musicianship, with direction by Donna Drake and arrangements by David Levinson. Catch them at Center Church in Hartford before they blow up in a big way.

WELL-STRUNG performs on Friday, Oct. 24, at Center Church in Hartford. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $15-$40. Information: centerchurchhartford.org.
