Carrie Underwood is one of only a handful of vocalists who have taken their success on TV singing contests and launched a full-blown career as a star.
It's been more than 10 years since Underwood won the fourth season of "American Idol" in 2005, and in that intervening decade she has acted, toured, started a family and generally won over fans from everywhere.
Underwood has a powerful voice, earning praise over the years from everyone from Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and author and poet Maya Angelou.
If the taste of superstars means anything, Underwood has artistry under her belt. She was voted the world's sexiest vegetarian by PETA, too: Even the animal rights people love her! Country music fans will note that Underwood is from Muskogee, Okla., which is as country of a place-of-origin as you can have on your birth certificate. Underwood appeared in the live TV version of "The Sound of Music," cementing her place in the hearts of the people.
In addition to all of her likability and singing talent, Underwood is that rare country singer (and TV singing show contestant) who writes or co-writes a lot of her own songs.
