Singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Larry Campbell and vocalist and guitarist Teresa Williams, his wife of more than a quarter century, are like the first couple of sidemen and backing vocalists. They have worked with pretty much everyone in the worlds of classic rock and Americana/roots music: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris, Mavis Staples, and loads more.

They released their debut album as a headlining couple last year. It’s a record that glides smoothly from country, soul and honky-tonk to reggae-tinged Piedmont blues. For a sense of their ambition, scope and skill, listen to the couple’s sweetly harmonized versions of the Louvin Brothers’ majestic “You’re Running Wild,” a song of love gone cold that they give a slight Latin-rock slink as if it were kissed by Roy Orbison, and the Grateful Dead’s equally lovely “Attics of My Life,” which has a soaring gospel purity in their hands.

Campbell and Williams perform at The Kate, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook, Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. $25. 877-503-1286 or katharinehepburntheater.org.
